Tips for using Soft Films

1. "Soft" films have a special matt surface that gives a velvety effect to the laminated support. This layer may slow down the passage of heat between the calender and the adhesive. This must be taken into account by adjusting the calender temperature and/or the laminating speed accordingly.

2. If some staining occurs as a result of direct handling by hand, the traces can be removed by rubbing the area with clean cotton without any liquid (the use of chemicals to clean the surface is not recommended). If a version that is more resistant to fingerprint marks is required, Temptation X is recommended.

3. Both sides lamination in a single pass is not recommended unless both surfaces are properly cooled before pallet stacking. For this type of application, the best results can be achieved with Temptation X, which reduces the risk of offsetting or ghosting.

4. When coating a double-sided plastic coated substrate with these films, it is recommended to stack the substrates vertically and not horizontally. It is also advisable to reduce the speed of the machine to allow the varnish to dry completely.

5. The use of these films for hardcover binding applications may present processing problems in the binding machine, as the film-to-metal friction coefficient is higher than the conventional films one. This can result in stripes on the surface. It is therefore advisable to keep the machine guides perfectly clean and to carry out tests before industrial production.

6. For folding and embossing, it is recommended to wait a few days after lamination to allow the film to achieve maximum adhesion to the substrate. If even more adhesion to the paper is needed, we recommend the use of digital printing versions.

7. For the production of boxes and cases, our experience is limited to the use of Hot Melt adhesives. This adhesive must be applied correctly, taking into account above all the application temperature. In winter, for example, you will have to compensate for the lower ambient temperature by heating the adhesive between 10 and 15°C. The use of other types of adhesives is not guaranteed and it is up to the end user to check their suitability. If water-based acrylic adhesives are used, it is very important to check the correct application quantity and viscosity.

8. UV offset printing and screen-printing on these films do not usually present problems. In all cases, preventive tests are always recommended before starting production.

9. Printed substrate inks must be perfectly dry before lamination.

10. For any application involving boards weighing more than 250 g/m2 or boards more than 0.5 mm thick, it is advisable to use the version for digital prints which have a higher adhesion strength.
